Hong Kong’s historic buildings are rich in diversity and variety of styles. As of today, more than 110 historic buildings have been declared as monuments and are under the statutory protection of the Antiquities and Monuments Ordinance (Cap. 53). Additionally, more than 1,200 buildings have been graded and are protected by administrative measures.
This exhibition displays models of selected historic buildings built in different periods, in various styles, and related to a range of ethnicities and religions. They include Jamia Mosque, Lui Seng Chun and Hong Kong City Hall—all three declared as monuments in 2022—and Confucius Hall, which promotes Confucianism, accorded Grade 1 status in 2020. These buildings are a testimony to Hong Kong’s multi-cultural society, and to the harmony in diversity found in this place. These miniatures of the original buildings display in great detail the aesthetic values and features of the architectural structures. The models of buildings can be taken apart and reassembled. This provides an interesting way to appreciate the extraordinary architectural structures of the original buildings themselves, and the ingenuity of the architectural craftsmanship employed in their design and construction.
