The Aesthetics of Chinese Traditional Architecture: Structure and Form

The results of architectural heritage surveys are usually presented by 2D plans, elevations and sections. The lines on these 2D drawings embed considerable information which is not easy for a layperson to grasp and understand. The introduction of 3D technologies such as 3D digital modelling, scanning and printing, AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality), has brought the possibility of easier communication. These technologies can enable the many layers of information relative to the work of heritage conservation to be analysed, archived and presented in many, more comprehensive ways. This exhibition is jointly organised by the Antiquities and Monuments Office and the Department of Architecture of Hong Kong Chu Hai College. We hope that the 2D drawings and the 3D digital and physical models on display will clearly demonstrate the beauty of the traditional Chinese architecture, which is part of Hong Kong’s cultural heritage!
