The Maritime Silk Road was developed during the Qin and Han dynasties, it flourished in the Tang and Song, and then carried forward into the Ming and Qing dynasties. As one of the Maritime Silk Road’s main ports, Guangzhou became an important hub of China’s maritime trade, thronging with merchants and precious goods, and played a role in cultural exchanges between China and overseas countries for more than 2,000 years.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Office of Application for UNESCO World Cultural Heritage for Maritime Silk Road, Guangzhou and the Archaeological Site Museum of Nanyue Palace, this exhibition uses textual and photographic materials to illustrate the long history of Guangzhou and its significant position on the Maritime Silk Road.
