Plant Fossils

Late Jurassic (about 164 million to 145 million years ago)
Lantau Island, Hong Kong
Collection of Antiquities and Monuments Office, Development Bureau

These fossils were initially inferred to be ferns (marked by red circles) and cycads (marked by green lines). Ferns first appeared in the Devonian, while cycads first appeared in the Permian. Both plants propagated during the age of dinosaurs and were the primary food source of the herbivorous dinosaurs.
