The Western district comprises three small districts, namely Sai Ying Pun, Shek Tong Tsui and Kennedy Town. The first inhabitants of the Western district were the British troops, followed by Chinese refugees who fled to Hong Kong after 1850. With the construction of the Peak Tram in 1888, people moved to live in the Peak area. The summer residence of the governor was also built in the area. The Western District and the Peak Route covers 25 historic buildings and sites.
