22 Historic Structures of Tai Tam Group of Reservoirs

Tai Tam Reservoir

To cater for the ever-increasing demand for water after the completion of Pok Fu Lam Reservoir, much larger reservoirs and more complex water supply systems were constructed as part of the Tai Tam Scheme and Tai Tam Tuk Scheme between 1883 and 1917. The improved water supply provided by the construction as part of these two schemes of Tai Tam Upper Reservoir (completed in 1888), Tai Tam Byewash Reservoir (completed in 1904), Tai Tam Intermediate Reservoir (completed in 1907) and Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir (completed in 1917) (which are today known collectively as the Tai Tam Group of Reservoirs) allowed the forces of urbanisation gradually to spread from Central and Western to the eastern side of Hong Kong Island and expand the city’s built-up area.

22 Historic Structures of Tai Tam Group of Reservoirs were declared monuments in 2009.
