Southern shore of Plover Cove Reservoir, Hong Kong
Collection of Antiquities and Monuments Office, Development Bureau
The southern shore of Plover Cove Reservoir contains Hong Kong’s oldest geological formation dated to the Devonian - the Bluff Head Formation. Ostracods are small crustaceans typically under 1 cm in size. They look like tiny shrimps protected within two shells. These two fossils contain ostracods of the Sinoleperditiini tribe, which lived mainly in the shallow parts of the coast.
