Public Letcure (16/4/2022): "Structure, Form, and the Built-environment" | Dr Wu Ding Hang (Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, Chu Hai College of Higher Education) & "How Modern Technology Advances Heritage Conservation from 2D to 3D" | Dr Too Wing Tak (Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture, Chu Hai College of Higher Education) [Chinese version only]Talk I: Is there aesthetic beauty in Chinese traditional vernacular architecture? The aesthetics of Chinese traditional vernacular architecture is a beauty manifested in the building practice achieved by the master builders. The essence of such beauty lies in the real expression of the timber structure, resulting in a unique architectural form. Most importantly, both structure and form are essentially a vernacular response to the built-environment. Talk II: What if we could travel back to the past virtually? With the latest 3D technology like 3D scanning, 3D modelling, 3D printing and virtual/augmented reality, heritage conservators can survey, analyse, archive and display historical artifacts from new perspectives. Technology can quickly and accurately capture 3D data of buildings and artefacts, which can then be virtually assessed for future use.
