Pok Fu Lam Road
The idea of establishing a school of Chinese at The University of Hong Kong was proposed between the two World Wars. Construction of the premises began in 1929 thanks to a generous donation from Tang Chi-ngong, after whom the building was named, and it was opened by Hong Kong Governor Sir William Peel in 1931. Further donations and endowments from the Chinese community then allowed the teaching of Chinese language and literature to be expanded. The building has been used for other purposes since the 1970s, and it was once the Centre of Asian Studies from 1982 to 2012. It currently houses the Jao Tsung-I Petite Ecole. This three-storey flat-roofed structure surfaced with Shanghai plaster. The exterior was declared a monument in 1995.
