St. Louis School

St. Louis School was opened as a trade and technical school in 1864 by the Fathers of the Catholic Mission; its name is derived from St. Aloysius, whom the fathers chose as the school’s patron saint. It was taken over by the Christian Brothers in 1875, the Maryknoll Fathers in 1921 and the Salesian Fathers in 1927, the year now regarded as the founding year of today’s school. The building comprises four wings: the East Wing is the oldest, built in the Art Deco style probably by 1927; the North Wing was severely damaged by a typhoon in 1936 and rebuilt in the same year; the Central and West Wings were constructed and opened in 1951 and 1969 after the school became an English grammar school in 1948.
