Old Mental Hospital (Sai Ying Pun Community Complex)
2 High Street
Completed in 1892 as quarters for the medical staff of the Government Civil Hospital. It was later converted into the wards for mentally-ill female patients until 1961 when the Castle Peak Hospital opened, after which it was used as a day treatment centre for psychiatric outpatients until 1971. In 1998, works commenced to redevelop the site into Sai Ying Pun Community Complex, while retaining the granite façade. The existing façade of the Old Mental Hospital is L-shaped in plan with a wide verandah and constructed in rusticated granite blocks and decorated with pinnacles, decorative parapets, etc. The façade of the Old Mental Hospital was declared a monument in 2015.
